2 Superfly

Team Captain:  Ed McGough
Other Members:  Peter Kneale

Aircraft:  C172 or C182 (TBC)

Ed McGough and Peter Kneale are relatively junior pilots, having completed their licences in 2007 and 2010 respectively (and both being under 35!). They met racing skiffs on the Swan River and discovered that they shared a passion for aviation. Ed convinced Peter to attend the introductory meeting for the 2012 Outback Air Race. Ed somehow managed to slip quietly out of that meeting without picking up any responsibility whereas Peter had volunteered to develop and maintain this website!

Ed flies regularly through the Curtin Flying Club at Jandakot and is currently undertaking a night rating - just in case! Ed is apparently (according to his wife) obsessed with flying and loves an adventure, so this trip seemed like an ideal opportunity to combine the two. He will be spending every hour he can afford to 'practising' between now and the race, more so that we don't get lost than so that we can win.

Peter has always wanted to fly around Australia on an “adventure” such as the one offered by the Outback Air Race. He sees the air race as an ideal opportunity hone his skills with the added safety and camaraderie of being amongst other experienced pilots. As with every flight, planning and preparation is essential, and for this reason Peter is happy to be involved in the planning committee for the race. In his other life Peter puts together "gas plants" that transport gas around the state.

4 Bad Mooney Rising

Team Captain:  Rowan Hill
Other Members:  Stuart Payne

Aircraft: 1985, J-model Mooney (M20J), VH-SJT

Stuart Payne has been flying since 1981, but only in 2009 ventured into the world of aircraft ownership when he purchased a half share in a 1985 J-model Mooney, VH-SJT .  He raced in the 2006 event (for the first time) and enjoyed it  so much so that he  volunteered for the record breaking 2009 event’s organising committee in the role of Treasurer, and is in the same role for this year’s event.   Flying with co-owner Rowan Hill, Stuart is keen to spend a fortnight watching Australia disappear under SJT’s wings as they fly in this great event once again.

Rowan Hill has been flying since 2002 but has taken his flying to new heights since purchasing a half share in SJT. With co-owner Stuart and some other merry mooney pilots at Jandakot, Rowan particularly enjoys the camaraderie and piloting challenge that formation flying offers. Rowan is looking forward to a night rating and a twin rating but more imminently is counting down the days until he and Stuart will practically circumnavigate Australia in SJT, visiting communities which due to their remoteness, they may never have otherwise seen. Rowan has been looking forward to volunteering for a good cause which gives back to the community and which he has a passion for. Rowan believes that joining the organising committee and competing in this year's RFDS outback air race will provide this opportunity.

6 Team TLC (Trevor, Linda and Champagne)

Team Captain: Trevor Jones
Other Members:  Linda Maule

Aircraft: TBC

Team TLC takes the RFDS Outback Air Race very seriously. T, L & C will all get equal weight on the aircraft. As race controller (Trevor) and official scorer (Linda), we believe we have a more than fair chance of pulling off 1st place. We're in it to wine it, we're Riesling to the challenge. As experienced pilots however, we drink responsibly and never spill a drop, even in severe turbulence. Just kidding, 8 hours bottle to throttle folks!

Trevor is an experienced professional pilot and Manager for Club Flying at Royal Aero Club of WA. Linda has been a licensed pilot for 7 years and is a Director for the Royal Aero Club of WA.
