Race update

We've just come back online after being offline at Arkaroola. We've been having a great time so far and will have some diary posts up shortly. Until then we can leave you with a couple of photos from the Arkaroola and Innamincka legs.

Leg 1 was won by the Bald Eagles (Peter, Geoff and Marie Nicholson) and Leg 2 by Superfly (Ed McGough ad Peter Kneae).

The Bald Eagles did an excellent job fundraising with "the leg" have raised well over $500 from locals and travellers in the area.

Leg 1 Underway

The briefing for leg 1 of the 2012 Outback Air Race has just been completed. This leg will take pilots from Ceduna to Arkaroola with start and finish points at Nunjikompita Silo and the threshold of runway 05 at Balcanoona airstrip.

Pilots have a tricky leg to forecast with up to 40 knots expected enroute which, depending on the actual speed and direction, can alter the planned finish time significantly.

We expect to start getting away by about 10am.. follow us live by clicking on the team Superfly spot tracker link to the right.

Bad Mooney Rising crossing the nullarbor at 300+ kph

Bad Mooney Rising: Some interesting clouds (and some cool weather) as we approached Ceduna.. Our average ground speed enroute from Caiguna to Ceduna (a 2 hr and 45 minute trip) today was 175 kts.... A tail wind and a Mooney make short work of the Nullabor Crossing.

Team Superfly "SPOT" tracker

Team Superfly (Ed and myself) are using a SPOT traker that provides live position updates to the web every 10 minutes during flight. Click here for the live update. We landed in Kalgoorlie today along with the Kingdom Flyers and will be departing for Forrest tomorrow.

Low cloud base of about 3000ft with isolated showers leaving Perth, clearing to nil by Kalgoorlie.

Enroute Accommodation Contacts

Phone numbers for the accommodation enroute has been added to the contact page if required at any stage during the race. This information is also in the daily diary provided to all participants at registration.
