Chinwag Newsletter #1 - Feb 2015

Our first Newsletter for 2015 is now available to view - click HERE. The newsletter provides an update on race planning progress and is a summary of the Chinwag event held at Jandakot airport on 23rd Feb 2015, for those that were unable to attend.

We were excited to see that Rob and Chook, from team Mellow Yellow, flew 300NM+ up from Esperance, including dodging thunderstorms, to come see us.

Future Chinwag event dates can be found on the events page.

Moree High Flyers

We have just registered our 24th team for the race, the Moree High Flyers, from Garah NSW! When compared to our 2012 event we already have five more teams registered, which means more fundraising money (each team member is required to fundraise at least $2,000) and more community reach. We are expecting a few more teams to register in the near future, although fast approaching our accommodation cap! If you are still "on the fence" we recommend getting your registration in ASAP.

Robert Hind, Outback Air Race Supporter

Robert Hind has supported the Outback Air Race since 1998 by developing and providing ongoing support for the race "AirScore" software. We thank Robert very much for his continued support.

Bio: Robert Hind specialises in programming and spreadsheets for a range of complex tasks as well as high transaction activities. He has developed transport costing and invoicing systems, reconciliation, analytical and mapping tools. Systems developed by Robert are used in conducting business with some of the largest businesses in the world. He aims for high automation, minimum or nil data entry and seamless sharing of data sets across applications. Robert Hind developed the first race scoring software system for the second Outback Air Race. He collaborated with the organisers to select the GPS Data Loggers currently used and generally makes improvements from one Outback Air Race to the next.

Robert is available for new projects and development.

Yahooo Australia Day 2014

Andrew Hamilton, of Team Yahooo, sent us this video of himself and son taking their home built Van RV-7A out for a spin on Australia Day 2014. You wouldn't be able to tell that this was Andrews first attempt at video editing! Andrew and Fiona Hamilton were top fundraisers in 2012 so we are excited to have them race again in 2015.

We have created a new media page with other videos to view.

The Brand Institute

We welcome The Brand Institute as the newest “supporter” of the Outback Air Race. The BI team worked collaboratively with us to develop a new visual identity for 2015 (and beyond) including new logo, flier design, marketing material and strategy. We are very grateful for the effort they put in, not only to promote and enhance our event but also to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Company bio: At The Brand Institute, we ensure our clients find the most meaningful ways to connect with their customers, the community and the world. We are engaged by organisations looking to uncover motivating insights, develop disruptive brand strategy, project their brand image and influence customer behaviour.

We create & evolve iconic brands through the intersection of brand strategy, corporate culture and customer experience.

We work with organisations that are determined to improve the lives of their customers, employees and the evolving world.

Our new logo!

We are very excited to reveal our new logo for 2015! The logo is just the first stage in the release of new visual identity for 2015, from new marketing packages to fliers and merchandise, which we will use to engage a wider audience and attract higher levels of sponsorship!

This could not have happened without the tireless work of the team at The Brand Institute (more on them later) and committee members Malcolm and Fiona. There has been a lot of effort put in by our national committee to date, and 19 teams already registered, which is all pointing to an extremely successful 2015 event!

Team highlight: True Blue

We have received a very positive response to this event with 15 teams already signed up! Malcolm and Rachel from team 10 “True Blue” are one of those, and recently sent through their story – see their team page here. True Blue will be racing in Mal's home-built Vans RV7A with a cruise speed of 160kts (300kph!).

Despite having a fundraising page for less than 24 hours, Mal and Rachel have already received $700 in donations, on their way to $5,000! I’m sure they would appreciate any support at this early stage via their Outback Air Race fundraising page here:

Did you see us in Australian Flying?

The 2012 Outback Air Race collected a bit of print space on completion; have a look at an article in the WorleyParsons magazine "westside story" and also Ed McGough's (team Superfly) personal account of the race published in Jan-Feb edition of Australian Flying. Both of the publishers also supported the event financially, Worley Parsons were obviously the principal sponsor and Australian Flying donated directly to the flying doctor via team Superfly.
