Record breaking fundraising total of $560,000!

We are very excited to announce that the 2015 Steadfast Outback Air Race has raised in excess of $560,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Our Treasurer, Stuart Payne, announced the figure to racers and guest at the finish party on Hamilton Island last night (Friday 4th September 2015), which included special guests Bill Mellor (RFDS board member) and Bill Owen (Steadfast broker representing Steadfast Foundation and Steadfast Group).
The fundraising figure is far in excess of all events before it, with participants and sponsors both contributing to this result. We thank our event naming rights supporter Steadfast Foundation, major sponsors The Classic Safari Company and Summit Fleet and Leg Sponsors. A special mention to Lawson Grains who not only contributed corporate funds as a leg sponsor, but also continued to raise funds as individuals, raising an incredible $53,000!
Our participants contributed over $430,000 to the total, with 18 teams raising more than $10,000. The event Highest Fundraiser was Mittagong 210ers (Peter Clisdell, Helen Clisdell, Jim Driver, Vanessa Driver) who raised $41,000 with runner ups Race Villians No. 7 (Phil Hines, Jane Crichton) and ATOM (Alan and Jo Sattler).
The fundraising total is almost double the total from the previous event and takes the total raised by the Outback Air Race since the inception in 1996 to $2,060,000.
Even better, we expect the figure will climb even further as additional donations are received and accounts finalised.
Thanks everyone for your efforts!

[Follow Us Live!]

With less than a week to go, we have enabled our live tracking page, available under SOAR 2015 > [Follow Us Live!]. This page features a live tracking map for all 26 aircraft using AvPlan live data, which will be automatically updated every 15 seconds while flying. Watch between now and Sunday to see racers from all over Australia converge on Esperance for the race start, then commence the first leg to Forrest together Monday morning, 24th August!

In addition to the live map, we have an embedded feed from our facebook page, a twitter board (which will display the latest tweets with handle @outbackairrace), team page links and a mail subscription form.

During the race, we will have an active blog (written by Fiona Hamilton) keeping you up to date with rumours, controversy and shenanigans.

This event has already broken records and we haven't even made it to the start line.. we look forward to keeping you up to date with event progress and announcements!

(Racers - For your aircraft to appear, you must be using your team captains account, with AvPlan live enabled, in flight mode and with cellular connection. We have sent you and email with more information. Any questions please contact the webmaster).
